On October 3, 1954, Al Sharpton was born in Brownsville, New York, United States. Currently, he is 67 years old and holds American nationality. He was born to his parents Ada (née Richards) and Alfred Charles Sharpton Sr.

Al Sharpton preached his first sermon on his tour with gospel singer Mahalia Jackson when he was 4 years old. He was licensed and ordained as a Pentecostal minister by Bishop F.D. Washington when he was 10.
