On July 22, 1940, Alex Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada; he was 80 years old at the time of death and held both American and Canadian nationality. His birth name is George Alexander Trebek.

Alex Trebek is the son of George Edward Trebek and Lucille Marie Lagacé. His father was a chef who had emigrated from Ukraine as a child, while his mother was a Franco-Ontarian.

Alex grew up in a bilingual French-English household. He was expelled from his boarding school. He joined military college but dropped out when asked to cut his hair.

Alex got his first job at 13 as a bellhop at the hotel where his father worked as a chef. He joined Sudbury High School. Then he was enrolled at the University of Ottawa. In 1961, he earned a degree of graduation from the University of Ottawa. He was a member of the English Debating Society while a university student. He was interested in a broadcast news career at that time.

Alex Trebek was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer and underwent an aggressive treatment regime. He survived one year of cancer treatment as of march 2020. On November 8, 2020, he died at 80 after a 20-month stage IV pancreatic cancer battle.

Alex Trebek started his television career by working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) after graduating from the University of Ottawa in 1961. There he serves as an announcer.

In 1963, Alex debuted his hosting job for the Canadian music program “Music Hop.” He also served in other hosting projects in Canada, including the high school quiz show “Reach for the Top” (1966).

In 1974, Alex moved to the United States after getting a job hosting the new game show, “The Wizard of Odds,” for NBC. He hosted the shows like “High Rollers” for NBC, the second season of “The $128,000 Question,” and the first and only CBS game show he worked on, “Double Dare.”

Alex also hosted “Battlestars” on NBC, which aired for six months from October 1981 to April 1982. He served as the host of “Pitfall,” which ended with him not receiving a paycheck for his work.

Alex was also working with the game show media mogul Merv Griffin; Trebek filmed two episodes for a revival of the game show “Jeopardy!” and the show was picked up.

In 1984, he got the position as host after the original “Jeopardy!” host Art Fleming declined the project due to creative differences. At the time, he hit 6,829 episodes with “Jeopardy!” beating out Bob Barker’s record from “The Price is Right.” In 2014, he also set the Guinness World Record for most gameshow episodes hosted by the same presenter.

Alex also became the first person to host three American game shows at the same time, which are “To Tell the Truth,” “Classic Concentration,” and “Jeopardy!”.
