He had been Bower’s court-appointed lawyer almost a decade ago and had asked him to plead guilty to four other charges against his name.

At the time, Bower had warned Costello that they would kill him when he got out of prison, but Mike believed it was an empty threat, which he realized that day in 2006 was not valid.

Eventually, he went out of the office to a college friend who started talking to Mike with the help of FBI guards around him. Mike said he did not know the severity of the situation until he left and saw his father crying at that moment.
